Whilst walking to work recently, I was approached by a smartly dressed young man carrying advertising flyers outside a new bakery which has opened in the High Street.
"Good morning, sir," says he. "I own this takeaway, I used to be called Valerie." I have to point out here that I have high tone deafness and in inclement weather conditions do not wear my hearing aids outdoors. At the time of the conversation, I had no idea what the second part of this sentence could possibly mean.
Anyhow on the way home I noticed that the shop is called Patisserie Valerie and is at the high/ expensive end of the market. Hence it provides somewhat of a contrast with the bakery next door - Greggs.
